Electronic music and art today
April 16, 2001

EMF's concert series at Engine 27 in New York City was a great
artistic and public success. There were many wonderful concerts, lots
of packed houses, and sometimes people had to be turned away. The
Expanded Instruments Festival, a series of concerts in March
involving acoustic instruments and electronics, was a fine musical
conclusion to the season. And the glass of champagne following the
last concert, with a lot of good cheer and a toast to celebrate
Leonardo Music Journal's 10th anniversary, was the closing chord.
Have a look at the site for some photos.

Leonardo Music Journal is now ten years old. Since its inception in
1991, LMJ has been devoted to aesthetic and technical issues in
today's music and sonic arts. Currently edited by Nicolas Collins,
and published yearly by MIT Press, each issue is based on a theme and
features a wide range of viewpoints by artists and writers from
around the world. Each issue also includes an audio CD or CD-ROM.
Back issues are available through CDeMUSIC.

The theme of the 10th anniversary issue is the southern hemisphere.
And the accompanying CD, with music from Africa and South America, is
wonderful! It's available from CDeMUSIC as an independent CD. Have a
look at 'Southern Cones'
