Education
TEACHING MUSIC
Models, Strategies, Methods: From Theory to Application
The 3rd Panhellenic/International Conference of the Greek Society for Music
Education, entitled "TEACHING MUSIC-Models, Strategies, Methods: From
Theory to Application" aims to bring together all those who are active
in the field of music education and the instruction of music, in all its
forms and at every grade and level.
The Goal of the Conference is:
To become a forum for the presentation of different theories and research
projects concerning the various models, strategies and methods for the
instruction of music, the relevant processes, as well as their results; and
for the presentation of various approaches to the instruction of music and
to music education, with the emphasis on methodology and practical
applications. The various approaches, trends and teaching systems employed
in the instruction of music and music education can be approached either
from a theoretical - philosophical and research-oriented point of view, or
from the point of view of their practical implementation.
On the one hand, to present existing and previously applied models,
approaches and techniques for the instruction of music, and on the other
hand, to inform about new research findings, methods and systems.
To invoke fertile speculation and debate concerning the possibility of
implementing or adapting to the Greek conditions and standards various
approaches to the instruction of music.
Interested parties are hereby invited to submit proposals for presentations
to be made at the Conference (for a sample of the proposal format for
submission, please see overleaf).
The proposals which will be selected for presentation must be original works
and relevant to the thematic axis of the Conference. Acceptable formats
include oral presentations (announcements, lectures), posters, proposals for
the organisation of round table discussions, and proposals for workshops and
performance events.
Terms for the selection of proposals:
The selection of proposals for presentation at the Conference will be
conducted by: the Board of Directors of the GSME, representatives of the
especially convened Organisational Committee of the Conference, Scientific
Counsels, and Special Associates of GSME.
The selection criteria will be the following:
a) The formal terms stated overleaf (observation of the submission deadlines
and of required length of presentations, English abstract of proposal and
resume, etc.).
b) Direct relevance of the proposal to the theme of the Conference.
c) Scientific standing of the proposal.
d) The inherent interest of the proposal in regards to its originality and
its contribution to the scientific dialogue on music education.
e) The coverage of the program of the Conference by relevant but varied
viewpoints.
Recapitulating, we would like to note that it is the wish of the Board of
Directors that all participants be informed in due time of whether their
proposals fulfil the above selection criteria or not. A certain reservation
is expressed, among other reasons, so as to assure the thematic unity of the
Conference, which does not necessarily reflect a lack of quality in a
proposal that is not selected.
